The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)

Since September 2008 for Bus and Coach Drivers and from September 2009 for Large Goods Vehicle Drivers compliance with the Driver CPC is a legal requirement.

Initial Qualification

All NEW Large Vehicle Drivers who drive vocationally will have to pass the following tests to gain their CPC qualification:

  • Module 1: Theory test and hazard perception
  • Module 2: Driver CPC case stuies test
  • Module 3: Practical driving test
  • Module 4: Driver CPC test for vehicle safety

LRC Training can offer Training and Tests in all the above.

NVT Concession

Candidates will be able to drive before completion of Modules 2 and 4 if they are registered on the relevant National Vocational Training Programme:

  • PCV NVQ for Bus and Coach Drivers
  • DGV NVQ for Goods Vehicle Drivers

Apprenticeships for new drivers

LRC Training has a contract with Welsh Assembly Government to deliver Foundation and Advanced Modern apprenticeships for both the Road Transport and Logistics Industries.

These programmes can offer funding and training support for New Drivers in relation to the Initial CPC Qualification.

Periodic training

All vocational Drivers * must undergo 5 days of Training delivered by an Approved provider in every 5 year period in order to maintain their entitlement to drive.

LRC Training is an approved training centre for the delivery of the Driver CPC – Periodic Training.

Courses can be delivered in the following:

  • Drivers hours legislation and tachograph rules
  • Safe and fuel efficient driving
  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Customer service
  • Safe loading and unloading
  • Pre use checks
  • Conflict resolution
  • Manual handling

1 day courses are available to individuals at £75 plus VAT plus the DSA fee of £8.75

Companies can benefit for a 33% discount for all Drivers enrolled in 2009 bringing the cost to: £50 plus VAT plus the DSA fee of £8.75.

Prices of subsequent courses will be held for those Drivers who enrol in 2009. (The cost of the 5 days training will be held at the current price.)
